Dates to Remember!

Please check Potter’s Portable a couple times a week for updates and for students’ “Weekly News” page. They’re doing a great job! Thanks for your support, parents!

In reading, we’ve been working on context clues to help figure out unknown words in our reading. In writing, we just finished citizenship paragraphs and have been working on improving our sentences by writing “show not tell” sentences and using adjectives/adverbs in our sentences. The class is very excited about starting our Human Body science kit! Please ask them what we are learning in science! I want to encourage students to go to the Foss web site and build Mr. Bones. If students build the skeleton correctly and bring a copy of  the skeleton back to class, I’ll accept this as a homework assignment. The link for the Foss website is located on the homepage. In math, we’ve been working on the 2’s multiplication fact and telling time.

Parents, below are a few important dates!

  • ASB fall fund raiser runs from September 28th to October 5th (Please make sure your children don’t sell door to door!)
  • Family Math night October 6th 5:30-7:30 (Dinner will be served!)
  • Individual picture day is October 7th
  • No school October 9th

Week 5

Wow, week five already! Parents, thanks coming to open house last week. I enjoyed meeting all of you.

Our first principal pride assembly will be this Friday at 10:45, September 25, 2009. Over the next two weeks Mrs. Lefler will be teaching our Steps to Respect curriculum, which is our bullying program. This week students will be working on their 5’s and 10’s multiplication facts, different ways to represent multiplication, and subtraction strategies. In writing, students will be revising, editing and writing their citizenship paragraphs. I also hope to begin our human body science kit this week.

Questions to ask your child:

1. What can a reader do when they have a meaning break down or they lose their way while reading?

2. What are two rights citizens have in the U.S.A.?

3. How are these two facts connected; 4 x 5=20 and 4 x 10=40?

P.S.- If your child brings in the answers to these questions, I’ll have a small prize for them!

WELCOME TO POTTER’S PORTABLE!

Please have a look around! I will update the home page once or twice a week. The links contain websites with fun games. The homework page has spelling lists and book project information. The classroom pictures page will contain photos of kids engaged in learning or involved in various school activities. I am constantly working  and learning new ways to improve the website.

I am looking forward to a great school year!
