 Week Four – News

September 18, 2009

We are learning many new things in fourth grade!

  • We are reading a book called Chickens May Not Cross the Road and Other Crazy (But True) Laws.They are true laws! You may not swim on dry land (Santa Ana,California).
  • Do you know pledge of allegiance was written especially for  children?It was  written  by a man named Francis Bellamy Mr. Bellamy published his poem in 1892 in the children’s magazine The Youth”s Companion. Is Mr. Bellamy still alive?
  • We are also making lots of new friends this year. I think its going to be a great year ! A couple days ago when we were doing one of our tests Mr. Potter pulled up our screen and everyone jumped because it made such a loud sound! So, Mr. Potter apologized for scaring the class.
  • Learning place value in math is cool but it is hard too. In place value is fun when you mix the numbers up.
  • In the class we are reading three novels  Yang the Third and Her Impossible Family, Freckle Juice, and Felita.
  • When we did the fire drills, the siren was very loud. It was a practice fire drill and we practiced outside, the lunch room, and the P.E. room. That’s all we did.
  • We learned about paragraphs on 9-15-09. A paragraph is 5-7 sentences, it has to have a topic and it is going to have lots of periods because it has lots of sentences. That’s all we did.

Week Five – News

September 25, 2009

Wow it’s week five! We’ve been learning alot!

  • One of the things our class does before recess every Wednesday is clean our messy desks. By the middle of the week are desks getting pretty messy. We clean them pretty well. Sometimes it doesn’t last that long but that’s why we do it in the middle of the week.

  • On 9/24/09 Alyssa did a millons number and the number was 9,876,051 – but the number was not that hard.

  • Mr. Potter tested everyone’s reading level in the class, but he missed one student on Wednesday. He did test him on Thursday.

  • We learned our multiples and facts for 5’s and 10’s.

  • Oh, I almost forgot we had a substitute that was in the Navy.

  • We did “Crazy” hat day on Friday. There were some pretty cool hats that kids were wearing. Check out the picture below! Today, was our first Principal Pride assembly, and Taylor and Josie received the award for our class.

WEEK 6 NEWS

WOW, we are already starting science!

  • Wyatt won two square against Brandon and two other people. Will he keep his pace or not?

  • Also family math night Tuesday 5:30.

  • Keara’s sister, Thea, went to college and she is coming back in 2 weeks. Keara and her family are very excited to see her.

  • Keara and Taylor won “Box Tops” lunch.

  • Jake’s cousin is coming home form the Iraq war for good. He is in Germany in now, but will be home November 14.

  • Josie has a soccer game this weekend! I hope she wins. Her team’s name is the GRAPE CRUSHERS! She has 14 people on her team.The players are herself(Josie), Ava, Abby, jordan, Taylor, Evon, Payton, Sarah, Olivia, Natasha, Katie, Maddy, Anna, and Emme! They have played 3 games and they have won 2 of them. I hope she wins her game this time. GO GRAPE CRUSHERS!

  • So,who wants to learn about 2 multiples?The multiples for “2” are 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16 18 20 22 24 26 28 30 32 34 36 38 40 42 44 46 48 50 52 54 56 58 60 62 64 66 68 70 72 74 76 78 80 82 84 86 88 90 92 94 96 98 and 100. That is 2 through 100 and that’s a lot of numbers.

  • We also just started studying the human body. Ashley asked, “How many veins do you have?” Another student learned that over 400 gallons of blood is pumped through our bodies every day.

WEEK 7 NEWS

October 8, 2009

  • The class is working on a book project at home. It is due on the 28 of October. I hope everybody makes it.
  • In November, the class is going on a field trip to an orchestra. We have been learning about the orchestra in music with Mrs. Bray.
  • We are all learning about multiplication facts. We have learned the twos, fives, tens facts and, now this week the four facts. Oh my, how many more facts? Did you know that the twos facts mean double and the four facts mean double, double. Isn’t that amazing? I think it is amazing.
  • We have been learning about the human skleteon, too. There are 206 bones in the human skeleton. We are going to open up an owl pellet[owl barf], today. GROSS!
  • Jazzlynn Hooper went to Wenatchee and got to ride Bandit her friend’s horse and she got to play with Lexy her friend’s dog.
  • Last weekend, Ava Bear went to a real soccer game and got her soccer ball signed by her favorite player on the soccer team [even though she didn't know anyone on the team]. She also took Josie. Her sister brought a friend too.
  • Mr. Potter got s bag of fake spiders. We have to guess how many legs are in the whole bag. It is hard I have to tell you.
  • Jazzlynn got a new puppy. His name is Buddy. He is a lopsaopsa [That is a kind of dog that is short with short hair].
  • We have been learning decimals[for example 936.75].

Every day we learn something knew in Mr. Potter’s class.

WEEK 8 NEWS!

 

  • In class we are trying to spell ARCADIA with good behavior. So far we have earned four letters. When our class doesn’t has less than five think time slips in a week, we get a letter. When we spell ARCADIA we get a ice cream party.
  • Last week we all started a new novel and a new study guide that goes with our books. This week we are working on a letter to Mr.Bones. The whole class is writing a letter to Mr. Bones. Oh by the way Mr. Bones is a life size human skeleton from the mid-school.
  • In science we taped our fingers to learn how important our joints are for movement.
  • Only one person was in the Robinson Crusoe play. It was so awesome!
  • Next, Friday is the busy day because it is the Holloween Party, and we’re so excited.

Week 14 News

  • We worked on factors, like the number 12- 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12. Students also created factor flowers for a class bouquet.
  • On Friday the class went down to the Deer Park bowling alley for an extra P.E. class. Students were very excited. Look at the pictures below!
  • Ashley’s birthday is coming up on December 18th.
  • Jake’s cousin, Jimmy, is coming home from Iraq.
  • This week the class started Rocket math to practice our multiplication facts.
  • In social studies we are learning the world’s oceans and continents.
  • Probability is all about the chances of an event actually happening. If you have a coin it has a 50/50 chance for heads or tails.
  • Statistics is the study of data. We learned to create bar graphs and to find the range, mode, and median.
  • Anna’s sister was born this week. She is 8 pounds and 15 ounces, twenty inches long.
